WHO IS THIS CHICK?

Hi, internet. I'm Amy Liz.

I'm a twenty-something make-up artist and occasional freelance writer and secret agent from Canada. I used to be a Registered Massage Therapist. Now, that basically means I know a lot about medical mumbo-jumbo and touching people. My real calling is all things creative. Also, TV.

And I happen to have Mitral Valve Prolapse -- actually, Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome. That means my heart doesn't work quite right, but its weird hyper-flexible valve action is really a signature of a whole body syndrome that affects everything. My autonomic nervous system -- which controls all the stuff we don't have to think about to make happen, like breathing, is out of balance. That part of my condition is called dysautonomia. For added fun and games, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity has been linked to MVPS.

On any given day, I experience some or several symptoms: fatigue, dizziness, brain fog, tachycardia (super-fast heart rate), palpitations, low blood pressure, trouble breathing, numbness, pain, hypersensitivity to everything ever in the existence of the universe, and many more, some of them pretty freakin' bizarre.

I live with my condition 24/7. It doesn't go away.

But I'm not alone. I'm one of many people with MVPS and other chronic illnesses that are misunderstood or overlooked because they're unusual and invisible.

WHAT'S WITH THIS BLOG?

I have a chronic illness; I'm a happy person; I like to write things. I want to reach out. I just want to share my experiences in the hopes of connecting and educating.

Living with these things are hard -- but our state of health doesn't have to define us.
